My Tribute to the Beatles

My tribute to the Beatles

On October 9, 2014, I was surfing the net when the following message caught my eye. It read as follows;

"Today Beatle John Lennon would have celebrated his 74th birthday. Born October 9, 1940 at the Liverpool Maternity Hospital, the musician went on to become one of the most famous people in the world, who remains an icon to this day." You can read the rest of the tribute thread to Lennon right here.

As a huge Lennon and Beatle fan, I was saddened by the fact that we had been deprived of so much of their music because at 40 years of age, Lennon was just warming up. He had a long career ahead of himself and it was all taken away from us, for nothing.

With my mind on the Beatles, I also reviewed this youtube video wherein George Harrison discussed his personal philosophy. In particular, George Harrison said, "Turn off your mind, relax and float downstream" and that proved to be music to my ears. I immediately put the words to music and proceeded to write a song I call Let's Meditate. [On October 10, 2014 I changed the name of my song to Let it Go because Let's Meditate sounds kind of irritating.]

I am a frequent browser of the message board godlikeproductions.com and along with immersing myself in all the threads about John Lennon, this rather obscure thread about lawyers and judges also caught my eye. I read it with some interest and it was also partly responsible for inspiring parts of my song, 'Let it Go'.

Now if anybody reviews this peculiar thread about lawyers and judges, you will probably wonder the following; How on earth did that thread influence a song like, 'Let it Go'? The answer my friend is blowing in lyrics like this;

                                                   I plagiarized the love in your eyes
                                                  And I won't let them paralyze
                                                  You gave it all you didn't compromise
                                                  And I will keep exposing their lies.

My song Let it Go is not exclusively about meditation. It is also about cold, hard reality and that is what I think will one day make it very popular.

We can all dream... it's a right.

After I wrote the song, I wondered about the origin of the phrase "Turn off your mind, relax and float downstream". I discovered it is taken from a Beatle song called "Tomorrow Never Knows". I tried to listen to the song but it proved to be painful. There is an obvious disconnect between the lyrics and the music. It sounds to me as if the Beatles were immersed in Yogi philosophy and forced this rather irritating song. I also believe that much of what is in their song was cribbed and there is nothing wrong with that because that is what storytelling is really all about, listening and repeating the very best of what this world has to offer.

Even the Beatles, the greatest band ever, wrote some crappy music. Isn't that inspiring? That's my opinion and if or when I record my song, Let it Go you will either embrace or reject my tiny opinion.

Peace. This is my humble tribute to the fabulous Beatles and may their ideas (at least the best of them) continue to inspire us as much if not more than their music did -and even that is more than enough.

I am very excited about working on Let it Go to the point where it is turned into a record because I think it is absolutely wonderful to continue to be inspired by the very best.
