I read the news today oh boy

If we ask the wrong questions, the answers do not matter. We all know why we punish, the reason is so obvious and it is done as a matter of course. We punish without even thinking about it. It is therefore clear and obvious that the question which begs attention is not "why", but "how". How do we punish?

As we have said, in a previous post, the prison system is broken. We need to empty the cells of all non-violent offenders and to fine them -hit them where it hurts the most. Why should we have to pay for their crimes?

Time for a change.

Why do we punish ourselves for the crimes of others? Most murderers and rapists are on the loose. The police don't have the resources to put them away. They're too busy fighting relatively petty crimes. The prison system is broken, it is not protecting citizens.

The good news is, it can be corrected overnight. Just give every non-violent prisoner the option to buy themselves out of prison. Hit them where it hurts -in the pocket book. Let them all out, after paying their fines. Why should society have to pay for THEIR crimes, does that make any sense at all?

Time for a change, the system is broken.
